Does UNIVAC still exist?

UNIVAC, which stands for UNIVersal Automatic Computer, was one of the earliest commercial computers produced in the United States. The first UNIVAC was delivered to the United States Census Bureau in 1951. It was notable for being the first computer designed for business and administrative use, as opposed to scientific or military applications.

Over time, the UNIVAC brand and the technology associated with it evolved through various corporate mergers and acquisitions. The original company behind UNIVAC, the Eckert-Mauchly Computer Corporation, was acquired by Remington Rand in 1950. Later, Remington Rand merged with Sperry Corporation in 1955 to form Sperry Rand. Sperry Rand continued to develop and market UNIVAC computers.

In 1986, Sperry Rand merged with Burroughs Corporation to form Unisys, which still exists today. Unisys continues to provide IT services, software, and technology, but the UNIVAC brand itself is no longer in use. The legacy of UNIVAC lives on in the history of computing, as it was a pioneering machine that helped to establish the computer industry.

In summary, while the UNIVAC brand and the original machines no longer exist, the company that produced them evolved into Unisys, which is still active in the technology sector. The historical significance of UNIVAC remains, as it was a key player in the early days of commercial computing.
